Wadduwa is located on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, 70 km from the international airport and about 40 km from Colombo. 2. Richmond castle

A Fascinating insight into colonial Sri-Lanka, based on an Indian Maharaja Castle, the Richmond Castle was built with materials from all around the world. The castle is an architectural masterpiece and a telling tale of magnificence and romance.

3.Kalutara Gangatilaka Vihara

The world’s only hollow Buddhist shrine located south of Kalutara Bridge. Its interior contains 74 murals, each depicting a different aspect of the Buddha’s life.

4.Pitipana church

Built in 1914 by French priests, the church is of artistic and historical value. The white- marbled altar and the church building with Roman architecture has a rare collection of stained glasses, a form of art popular in medieval Europe depicting important incidents in Jesus’ life.

One can move around in Tuk Tuk’s easily or even hire a scooter (better not unless you are used to riding in South Asian roads .

When to Go

Best time: January – March, which is before the South-West monsoon is a perfect time to visit there to enjoy mid waves of the Indian Ocean.

Time to avoid: May – July has the highest rainfall with low temperatures. Waves of southern coast are terrible with winds due to the monsoon.
